Tiger Box Reusable Container Program

Aug. 28, 2024

Campus Dining is pleased to announce the launch of a pilot reusable to-go container program, Tiger Box, at the Chemistry and EQuad Cafes on Monday, July 15, 2024  The first 50 participants at each location receive free enrollment.

The Tiger Box Reusable Container Program is designed to reduce packaging waste in support of Princeton’s Sustainability Action Plan .

The pilot program is open to students, staff, and faculty with a TigerCard. Based on the outcome of the pilot program, we will consider program expansion for the Fall.

The program will be available at:

  • Chemistry CaFe and EQuad Café

By making a daily choice to reuse, whether you take out or dine in, you will help Princeton achieve its sustainability goals to reduce waste while also taking steps to protect the environment.

How can I participate in the program?
You may opt in to the reusable container program for a non-refundable fee of $5 at a cashier in the Chemistry or EQuad Cafes during normal hours of operation.

We accept payment in the form of credit cards, PAW Points, Dining Points, and Student Charge.  Tower Cards may not be used to opt in to the reusable container program.

After you opt in to the program, the cashier will tap your TigerCard to associate a reusable container with your account almost like checking out a library book.

The reusable container program is not transferable to another person.

Now that I have a container what’s next?
Proceed to fill your container, pay for your meal and enjoy a 25 cent discount each time you use your container!

Where and how do I return my container?
After your meal, please wipe out any remaining food and return the container to the cashier during normal hours of operation at the Chemistry or EQuad Cafés.

The cashier will tap your TigerCard and either provide a clean container for use at the cafes or issue a virtual token associated with your account so the next time you dine with us in the cafes, you will have a container credit.

All containers are sanitized by Campus Dining between use.

What should I know about the reusable container?
The container is a 9”x9” 3 compartment container designed to hold a full meal from Preserve2Go reusable food container. The container is Made in the U.S.A. with 50% recycled plastic.  The container is BPA Free, PFAS Free, and NSF Certified. The container is microwave-durable and can withstand 1000+ uses. The container itself is recyclable at the end of its usage.

What if I forget to return my container?
If you forget to return your container, you may opt in for a second container at an additional $5 fee.  You are limited to having two containers and one must be returned before obtaining a new container.

May I use my own container?
Health codes prohibit the use of personal containers in dining facilities.  Be assured that we thoroughly clean and sanitize containers after each use.

By opting in to the reusable container pilot program, you agree to receive email communications from Campus Dining regarding the pilot program.

Please provide feedback using the Text n Tell system.  We would love to hear from you about what is working and how we can make this pilot become possible on a broader scale.
